Whales in High Places – Larry Foster

From the beginning of his whale art career, Larry Foster’s quest was to elevate whale awareness and to see “whales in high places,” such as in every, or at least every other, public park across the nation or how about on a U.S. postage stamp? He submitted many, many whale stamp designs to the U.S. Bureau of Engraving. It’s a shame the U.S. hasn’t produced whale stamps. They could be the best.

A successful effort to place whales in high places was to illustrate five different species on a check series for the Bank of America in the 1980s. The BofA donated proceeds from the sales of the checks to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the Marine Mammal Fund.

And for a bit of levity, “Whales Playing Poker” is a fun way to place whales in high places. Yes, that is a new species of card shark hanging around.
