Charts – Larry Foster

According to Larry Foster, “The first charts ever were in caves, produced by cavemen, cavewomen, and maybe cavekids. They weren’t pull-down charts – that came later. Cave charts were depictions, mostly of animals, directly, on the cave wall – the first murals. Thousands of years later, charts have become a way of life, printed on paper, skin, cloth and plastic, and available in all shapes and sizes throughout the world on every subject imaginable. In my view, charts rumble, rock, and rule.”

Larry’s first chart in 1976 for the National Geographic catapulted his stature as a scientific illustrator internationally. Many whale charts were soon to follow to be published, as well as his own educational small charts for national distribution to schools. Larry jokingly called himself “Larry Foster – The Whale Chart Meister.”
